Prof. Levinson's right-to-work article cited by Delaware county

Ariana Levinson

Brandeis School of Law Professor Ariana Levinson's recent article about the federal preemption of local right-to-work ordinances has been cited by a county attorney in a conservative county in Delaware.

The Sussex County Council introduced a right-to-work ordinance in October 2017. On Jan. 5, 2018, the county's attorney issued an opinion on the proposed ordinance and cites Levinson's article twice.

The article, "Federal Preemption of Local Right-to-Work Ordinances," was published in the summer 2017 issue of the Harvard Journal on Legislation. Levinson co-wrote the article with Alyssa Hare and Travis Feichter, who were Brandeis Law students at the time. It argues that local right-to-work ordinances are preempted by a federal statute, the National Labor Relations Act.

"It’s always rewarding to see something I’ve written having real-world impact," Levinson says.
