Rhonda Buchanan
FACULTY PROFILE

Rhonda Dahl Buchanan is a Professor of Spanish at the University of Louisville and Director of the Latin American and Latino Studies Program since 2002. In 2000 she received the U of L Distinguished Teaching Professor Award and in 2004 she was named the recipient of the U of L Trustees Award. She is the author of numerous articles on contemporary Latin American writers from Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico, and the editor of a book of critical essays, El río de los sueños: Aproximaciones críticas a la obra de Ana María Shua (2001; available on-line at http://www.iacd.oas.org/Interamer/shua.htm.) In the summer of 2004, she won an award to participate in the International Banff Centre for Literary Translation in Banff, Canada. Her translation of three novels by Perla Suez, The Entre Ríos Trilogy, was published in 2006 by the University of New Mexico Press in their Jewish Latin America Series. She is the recipient of a 2006 NEA Literature Fellowship for the translation of Alberto Ruy-Sánchez’s novel The Secret Gardens of Mogador: Voices of the Earth (forthcoming, White Pine Press, 2008). Her latest translation Quick Fix: Sudden Fiction by Ana María Shua, a bilingual illustrated anthology of short short stories, was published in 2008 by White Pine Press.
