Biography
Todd Vitaz joined the University of Louisville in 2002 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery. He also directos Neurosurgical Oncology and is co-director of the Nurosciences Intensive Care Unit at Norton Hospital.
As a team member of the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, he directs the Laboratory of Clinical Research. The goal of this lab is to is to design and implement clinical studies during the acute, subacute and chronic phases of human spinal cord injury. The laboratory has the necessary infrastructure to allow us to take any basic science breakthroughs and translate them into clinical studies and treatments. In the future we plan on performing single center and multi-center studies to evaluate novel therapeutic and pharmacological interventions for acute spinal cord injury.
Vitaz has numerous peer-reviewed publications and collaborates with a number of colleagues in the field. His research is funded by the Kentucky Spinal Cord and Head Injury Research Trust, the National Institutes of Health and private companies.
Prior to joining the U of L faculty, Vitaz completed a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Vitaz earned his B.A. at Ohio Wesleyan University and completed his M.D. and general surgery internship at the University of Cincinnati. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Louisville.
