Research Description
Our goal is to implement and design clinical studies during the acute, subacute and chronic phases of human spinal cord injury. We have created the necessary infrastructure to allow us to take any basic science breakthroughs and translate them into clinical studies and treatments. Currently we are working on ways to quantitatively assess the degree of neurological injury and recovery in humans. In addition, we are working on two noninvasive tests, spinal cord oximetry and cine-flow MRI, in an effort to assess the degree of compression and physiologic derangement in the human spinal cord. In the future we plan on performing single center and multi-center studies to evaluate novel therapeutic and pharmacological interventions for acute spinal cord injury.
