Cindy Norton nominated to NSCIA - October 2006
Bethesda, MD – Cindy Norton, President of Friends For Michael, Inc. Spinal Cord Injury Organization, of Campbellsburg, KY has been nominated for induction to the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Hall of Fame™. Formed by the National Spinal Cord Injury Association (NSCIA) in 2005, the SCI Hall of Fame was created to celebrate and honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to quality of life and advancements toward a better future for all individuals with spinal cord injury.
Support from family, friends, and healthcare providers is the keystone to the quality of life for persons with spinal cord injury. Cindy founded the grass roots and non-profit Friends for Michael nine years ago. Her original intent was to help the quality of life of Michael Brent, a local teenager who became a tetraplegic in an automobile accident.
Through car washes, hymn sings, bake sales, tractor pulls, raffles, and a Wheel/Walk/Run, Cindy, as president, and the Friends for Michael raised money to assist Michael and his family with buying a van and building a ramp. Through annual Wheel/Walk/Runs, Celebrity Golf Scrambles/Auctions, Disability Days at the Kentucky Speedway with the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, Poster Contests, Speaking Engagements, as well as numerous local and across the state events in Kentucky and Indiana, Cindy and the Friends for Michael have raised over $250,000.
