KPPC Energy Efficiency (E2) Program
Results from a National Pollution Prevention Roundtable study show that between 2001 and 2003, 29 pollution prevention (P2) programs in the United States prevented 6 billion pounds of pollution, reduced energy usage by 1.2 billion kilowatt hours and conserved more than 44 billion gallons of water. These measures resulted in more than $500 million in cost savings. This shows that sustainable environmental performance is not simply a nice afterthought of doing business – it’s a necessity.
The Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center (KPPC) is proud to count itself as Kentucky’s only state-mandated P2 technical assistance resource. As such, the Center offers a variety of services that promote, implement and enhance its clients’ environmental sustainability efforts. As an Energy Star® Partner, KPPC's Energy Efficiency (E2) Program provides services that help Kentucky businesses, industries and other organizations operate more efficiently and also demonstrates how investments in responsible environmental stewardship provide financial pay-backs, improved state and federal resources, recognition opportunities and more.
ON-SITE ENERGY EFFICIENCY ASSESSMENTS
Is your business energy efficient?
Could you reduce your costs by finding a lower rate offered by your utility provider?
Could making even small changes in your operation result in lowering your energy bills?
You can find out with an energy assessment from KPPC.
KPPC provides FREE, CONFIDENTIAL and NONREGULATORY on-site energy efficiency (E2) assessments. The E2 assessments focus on reducing the environmental impact of energy consumption and reducing energy costs.
Assessments are completed by KPPC technical staff which includes engineers and specialists. KPPC also mentors and utilizes student engineers from the University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering. Each assessment team provides a wide range of experience and knowledge to address the individual needs of the Center’s clients.
KPPC's uses the following phased approach when conducting E2 assessments:
• Preassessment – we give you information on best energy practices and collect pertinent information on your facility
• Phase I – KPPC conducts a “tabletop” utility bill evaluation, including a check for billing errors, tariff rate analysis, and identification of opportunities for reducing demand
• Phase II – includes an on-site visit to evaluate energy project opportunities in subsystems such as lighting, motors, HVAC, compressed air, and major process equipment.
Before the E2 Assessment
To facilitate the assessment process, KPPC will work with you to complete an E2 Pre-Assessment Questionnaire. This questionnaire assists KPPC with identifying existing E2 measures and current needs of the client’s facility. All information is confidential and will be used for a NONREGULATORY review of your facility operations in order to assist with developing a site-specific E2 plan.
How the E2 Assessment Works
KPPC’s process is designed to familiarize clients with the basic concepts of energy efficiency and help you initiate and maintain your own E2 policies and practices. Our Certified Energy Managers look at everything from method of operation and best available technology to billing structure. The assessments help you realize the benefits of efficient energy management by:
• Identifying E2 opportunities;
• Identifying best energy practices and the newest available technology;
• Quantifying cost-savings.
Recommendations are given in light of any special concerns, such as limits on payback, corporate directives, pending facility expansions, etc.
KPPC provides you with an E2 Assessment Report, which outlines KPPC’s findings and recommendations on potential energy-saving opportunities. Results of the E2 Assessment Report are the sole property of the client. KPPC will not publish, divulge, share or otherwise distribute assessment report results unless given written permission to do so by you. No other agency – regulatory or nonregulatory – has access to these confidential reports.
Within a few months after you receive the E2 Assessment Report, our representatives conduct a post-assessment follow-up to ensure satisfaction and to collect implementation data for assessment recommendations. We are also available to you for further assistance if needed.
