Program Requirements

For MSW students:

The specialization is integrated within the Kent School masters curriculum. The MSSW at Kent is based on a 60-hour degree program for traditional students and 30-hour program for advanced standing students. Regular and advanced standing students can obtain a School Social Work Certification within the MSSW program.  The specialization requires currently enrolled MSW students complete: (a) six hours of field education placement (SW 672 and SW 673) in an approved school setting during the student’s concentration year; (b) SW 630: School Social Work: Policy and Practice (3 hrs.); (c) EDSP 644: Applied Behavior Analysis; (d) EDSP 540: Introduction to Exceptional Children; and (e) a student portfolio.

For Post-MSW students:

Individuals with MSWs from accredited schools will be recommended for SSW certification through the EPSB upon completion of the required electives and a portfolio. The specialization requires post MSW students to complete: (a) SW 630: School Social Work: Policy and Practice (3 hrs.); (b) EDSP 644: Applied Behavior Analysis; (c) EDSP 540: Introduction to Exceptional Children; and (d) a student portfolio.
