Harry E. Allen is a Lecturer in the Department of Justice Administration at the University of Louisville, where he teaches on the topics of Corrections, Community Corrections, Ethics, Computer Applications in Justice, and Substance Abuse. He is also Professor Emeritus, Justice Studies, San Jose State University. A prolific author, he has coauthored the best-selling introductory textbook in Corrections, now in its 11th edition. He is the first criminologist to serve as President of the two major professional organizations in the field (Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, and The American Society of Criminology). He received his doctorate in Sociology at The Ohio State University, and was Executive Director of the (Ohio) Governor’s Task Force on Corrections. Dr. Allen has presented more than 100 scientific papers at annual conventions, and was the director of 42 funded evaluations in the field of criminal Justice.
