Mr. Joseph Sterling Grant is a retired, 23-year veteran of law enforcement. He served on the Jeffersonville City Police Department in Indiana for 13 ½ years and accepted a lateral transfer to the Jefferson County Police Department in Kentucky 1998. In 2000, he was assigned to the training academy as the primary instructor in defensive tactics, diversity, ethics, and interpersonal discipline. In 2003, the City of Louisville and Jefferson County governments merged forming the Louisville Metro Police Department. Mr. Grant continued his primary instructing roles in the newly formed agency until his retirement in February of 2008.
Mr. Grant received his Bachelor of Arts degree in General Studies from Indiana University Southeast in 1996. In 2001, he graduated from the University of Louisville with a Masters degree in Justice Administration. In 2007, he completed his course requirements for his Doctorate degree at the University of Louisville in the School of Urban and Public Affairs and is currently a Doctorial Candidate. Following the completion of his dissertation, he plans to continue his research on the topic of “organizational justice” and other related law enforcement topics. He also plans to focus his attention on the needs of his students, and continue to devote his time to community services.
Mr. Grant married his wife Rhonda in 1990. They have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. His mother (Myrtle), father (Robert) (1922-1999), and his brother (Tony) (who is also a LMPD officer) established the foundation for his strength and enlightenment.
