Viviana Andreescu (Associate Professor of Criminal Justice) received her B.A. from the University of Bucharest, Romania and her M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Louisville. In addition, she studied at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands and at the Salzburg Seminar in American Studies, Austria. Dr. Andreescu is the recipient of the 2023-2024 US Fulbright Scholar award.

Dr. Andreescu is a broadly trained social scientist and even though criminology and criminal justice issues represent the focus of her studies, most of her research work is interdisciplinary and is conducted from a cross-cultural perspective. Her research interests cluster around four areas that often overlap: empirical testing of criminological theory; violent crime and fear of crime; policing; and human rights and social justice issues as they relate to social minorities, in national and international contexts.

Dr. Andreescu made over 90 presentations at national and international professional meetings. Her recent work has been published in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Journal of School Violence, Punishment & Society, Deviant Behavior, Criminal Justice Review, International Criminal Justice Review, Journal of Ethnicity in Substance Abuse, Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal Justice, Policing: An International Journal, International Journal of Police Science & Management, and Crime Prevention & Community Safety. She teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs courses on statistics, criminological theory, women and crime, and criminal justice program evaluation.
