Comrades,

As many of you know, the graduate employees at the University of
Pennsylvania have been organizing for over two years.  We've
demonstrated majority support on three separate occasions, including an
NLRB-run election just about a year ago; unfortunately, due to Penn's
legal maneuvers, the ballots from that election remain impounded.  We're
gearing up for an "Anniversary Action" to take place very shortly,
designed to "liberate" the ballots.

I write to ask a favor of you all.  We are currently trying to enlist
Penn faculty to sign a petition

(http://www.petitiononline.com/faculty/petition.html) calling on the
Penn admin and the Trustees to "accept whatever choice the graduate
employees made in the election and move forward with the process," i.e.
to drop the appeal, allow the ballots to be counted, and sit down and
bargain with us.  We're asking union-friendly faculty to contact
colleagues at Penn to urge them to sign the petition.  The more who
sign, the easier it is for our organizers to persuade graduate employees
to support the Anniversary Action.

So, if you know anyone on the Penn faculty, please forward the above URL
to them with a message urging them to sign.  Please also let me know
if/when you do so, so we can keep track of who's been contacted.  You
can reach me at jmhornstein@getuponline.org.

Thanks in advance for your help!

In Solidarity,
Jeff Hornstein
