Members and Supporters of G.E.O. at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign--

Approximately 40 GEO members and allies are SITTING IN at the Swanlund Administration Building right now! They are blockading the entrances to the building, preventing the 100+ employees of Swanlund from getting to work, including the Provost and the Chancellor of the University! They can either negotiate with us, or arrest us.

Call the Board of Trustees at 333-1920 and encourage them to do the right thing and negotiate with GEO!

Our demand: We demand that the Board of Trustees and the UI Administration negotiate an out-of-court settlement that respects the express wishes of graduate employees for union representation. We insist that this agreement be made as a public promise and written down in a signed, official letter.

Why are we doing this? Today the Board of Trustees arrives in town for a two-day meeting. The Administration always claims that they are unable to negotiate with us, but today all the key people are in town and available to reach an agreement. We want to put them in a position where they can either negotiate with us, or arrest us. In addition, this BOT meeting is their last opportunity to agree with us before our planned April work stoppage. Nobody wants to have a strike if we can avoid it. By demonstrating our resolve today, we show our willingness to suffer personal inconvenience before subjecting our students to another work stoppage.
