Wireless Network v2.0
On March 7, 2008, a new version of the UofL campus wireless network (dubbed Wireless Network v2.0) was put in place to support client-less access and a new form of guest access. At the same time, a new Odyssey client with Windows Vista support became available for those who desire the additional features supported by the client. The university will continue to support the existing secure access (using UofL_Auth and the former version of the Odyssey client) while making the transition. It is planned that the legacy wireless environment will be removed by December 31, 2008.
The legacy guest access (using MAC addresses) will become immediately unnecessary and will be removed by May 2, 2008. If you are a Vista user and had previously contacted the HelpDesk to receive assistance to wirelessly connect to the university's networks, you must either download the Odyssey client or configure your system to use the Microsoft wireless protocol by no later than May 2, 2008. Support for your existing connection will end on May 2.
The University of Louisville provides wireless networking in many public areas on all three campuses. The wireless network uses 802.11g equipment providing up to 54Mbps connectivity. UofL Wireless is a secure network that encrypts traffic on the network to prevent intrusions and interception of traffic.
Faculty, staff and students have the option to use the built-in wireless support in the Windows and Macintosh operating systems or to use the Odyssey wireless client software for additional features.
Guests may register for short-term network access without using the Odyssey client, but will not have the same level of network security as faculty, staff, and students. All faculty and staff have the ability to sponsor a guest wireless user. The following sections describe the features of the system, and link to configuration and installation instructions.
System Requirements
The Client-Less solution this solution is available for devices such as Windows XP Service Pack 2, Vista, Mobile 5 and 6, and Mac OS Leopard/Tiger or any other device capable of utilizing WPA/WPA 2 enterprise framework which is utilizing EAP-PEAP/MSCHAP v2 and is encrypted using TKIP/AES, capability including Linux.
The Odyssey client is currently available for both Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista.
Setup "Client-less" Secure Access
Faculty, staff and students can set up secure wireless access using the built-in features of the Windows and Mac operating systems. Configuration instructions are available for Windows XP-SP2, Windows Vista, WIndows Mobile 5/6 and Mac OS Leopard. Additional configurations may be available in the future for other systems.

Odyssey Client version 4.7
The Odyssey client provides network login (using your ULink userid and password), and encryption of your network traffic. Odyssey client verison 4.7 support both Windows XP-SP2 and Windows Vista. The Odyssey client software is available at no charge to faculty, staff and students, and can be downloaded in the free software section of the iTech Xpress web site. Please read the installation instructions before attempting to download.

The Odyssey Client is compatible with any wireless adapter card that fully supports 802.1x. Please insure you have the latest driver and firmware updates for your wireless card or built-in wireless. For PDA devices, there is a client for PocketPC 2002 and Windows Mobile 5 operating systems. Installation on these devices requires a desktop/laptop computer with a current version of the Windows operating system.
Wireless Access for Guests
Temporary guest access is available for visitors of the university and may be requested by any faculty or staff. Note: Guest network sessions are not encrypted.

Odyssey Client v 4.5 - Legacy Version
The Odyssey v4.5 client is available for Windows XP, PocketPC handheld devices, and Windows Mobile 5 devices. Note: This version of Odyssey does not support Windows Vista, and is being replaced by version 4.7. This information is being maintained during the transition period, and the new client 4.7 should be used if possible. This client will be removed from service on or before December 31, 2008. Please read the installation instructions before attempting to download.
