Blackberry Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get a license for the BlackBerry Server from and how much does it cost? You order a license for the BlackBerry server from the IT Store’s web page. The cost for a license is $85.00.

 

What type of Device will this license work for?

The BlackBerry Server license will only work for a BlackBerry device. If you have another device, Treo, Palm, or other PDA, this license will not work for you.

 

What does a BlackBerry Device do for me?

A BlackBerry is really a PDA and a cell phone in one device. It allows you to view emails, keep track of appointments, make/receive phone calls, and even browse the internet.

 

How/where do I get a BlackBerry device?

You can order a BlackBerry device from whichever vendor you would like or by filling out an IT Communication Services work order, by going to: https://tele1.louisville.edu/webapp, logging in and creating a new Cellular Services work order.

 

What GroupWise address books can’t I use with my device?

There are 4 address books or types of address books that you can not use to sync up to your BlackBerry device, they are; The Novell GroupWise System address book, Novell LDAP address Book, Frequent Contacts, and a shared address book that you are not the owner of.

 

Can I proxy into someone else’s account from my BlackBerry Device?

No, you can not proxy into someone else’s calendar from a BlackBerry device. A BlackBerry is not a fully functional GroupWise Client, so you only have access to your account from it.

 

If I delete an email from My BlackBerry device, is it also deleted from GroupWise and vice versa?

If your settings are done correctly, then yes, you should only have to delete an email once from either the device or from GroupWise. The setting that controls this is:

Messages/Options/ Email Reconciliation:

a. Delete on: Mailbox & handheld

b. Wireless Reconcile: On

c. On Conflicts: Mailbox wins
