Network Print & File Services

UofL uses Novell Netware to extend network-based print and files services to personal computers.

Novell Client

The Novell client software must be installed on workstations using network print and file services. Windows client software is available as a free download (or on a CD) from the IT Store.

Home Directory (H: drive)

All faculty and staff can have personal storage ("home" directory) that is assigned to the Windows H: drive. The H: drive comes with a storage allocation of 50MB, that can be increased on request, but is subject to an annual charge for the amount over 50MB.

The H: Drive is an ideals place for an archive of your GroupWise email since it is accessible form any Internet-networked personal computer at work or home.

To request a home directory, use the Request a Home directory form.

Shared Directory (I: drive)

Departments can request a shared directory that can be used for collaboration and file sharing within a department. Shared LAN storage is assigned a Windows drive letter of I: . All storage on the I: drive is charged to the department annually, and any amount of storage can be requested (subject to availability). If you are the Tier I for your department you may request a shared directory if it is approved by the department. Please obtain your department's approval before completing this form because the department will be charged for usage. The requester of the form will become the owner of the folder. The owner is the only person who can request access changes.

To request a shared directory, use the Create a Shared Directory form.

Disk Space Management

Faculty and staff are allowed up to 50MB of storage on their home (H:) drives at no charge. Storage on shared drives (and storage on Home drives over 50MB) are charged to departments.

To request additional space on a home or shared directory, use the Disk Space Request form.

Network Printing

Network printing queues can be set up so that departments can share printers. Printers must be directly attached to the campus ethernet backbone network, and print users must have Novell client software installed in order to use the printers.

For more information or assistance with network printing, please contact the Helpdesk at 852-7997.
