Windows Automatic Update

Windows Automatic Update feature is available with Windows 2000, ME, and XP.  This is a tool that will automatically check for any new Critical updates that your computer needs and install them at a designated time.


STEPS:

Windows XP: Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Automatic Updates

Windows 2000: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Automatic Updates

Windows ME: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Automatic Updates

  • Click on the checkbox to “Keep my computer up to date”.
  • Under settings, choose the second choice, “Download the updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed”.
  • Click on OK.


Note: it is important that you check the Microsoft Office Update web site every month for critical updates to the Microsoft Office software as well. To download Office Updates to the following web site and look for the “Scan for Updates link: http://office.microsoft.com/.
