Swain Student Activities Center, Recreational Sports Area
Completed in 1990, the recreational sports area of the Swain Student Activities Center has become a hub of campus life. Over 350,000 participants used this area of the "SAC" last year. Mendelsohn Gymnasium, named after former director Ellis J. Mendelsohn, contains 4 multi purpose gym floors that can be utilized for basketball, volleyball or badminton. The remainder of the center contains 5 racquetball courts, 2 squash courts, complete lockeroom facilities, and a 5000 square foot strength and fitness area featuring a full line of Trotter selectorized weight training equipment, Nautilus free weight and plate loaded equipment and over 5 tons of free weights. The room also contains 30 pieces of cardiovascular training equipment ranging from True and Lifecycle stationary bikes, Climbmax & Trotter stair climbers, Versa Climbers, Concept II rowing ergometers and elliptical trainers. Racquetball and squash courts may be reserved one day in advance by calling 852-7850 or by stopping by the Service Counter. Treadmills may be reserved by stopping in the center during operating hours.
