Academic Program Approval and Review

by Barrow,Shari Katherine last modified Mar 28, 2012 03:34 PM

At the University of Louisville, every educational program for which academic credit is awarded has been approved by the faculty and administration, and learning outcomes have been established are regularly evaluated. All proposals for new degree programs are reviewed and approved by the unit faculty/dean, Faculty Senate and Provost Office before they are recommended to the Board of Trustees. The governing boards of the four-year institutions and community/ technical colleges are authorized to approve new academic programs that fall within the institution’s negotiated program band based on their mission, strengths, and current programs.  Exceptions include first-professional, engineering, health-related, and education programs, which must be approved by the Council on Postsecondary Education before being approved by the institutions’ governing board. The following links describe the university's program approval and review processes.
