Welcome to the InfoSec (Information Security) web site hosted by the University of Louisville (UofL). The InfoSec program at U of L is a collaborative effort of the Computer Information Systems (CIS) department in the College of Business , the Computer Engineering Computer Science (CECS) department in the Speed School of Engineering. Our vision is to respond to the challenges posed by the rapid technological advancements in the area of networking and consequent emergence of new and sophisticated threats and attacks on the critical information infrastructure of the nation. In pursuit of this goal, the CIS department started offering a concentration in Information Security at the undergraduate level since Fall 2004 to enhance awareness in this important area. The InfoSec concentration is popular with CIS and Accountancy majors. The CIS department has a Certificate in InfoSec aimed at people in the industry who need specialized education in the security area. The CECS department has a graduate level Certificate in InfoSec.
The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with various other federal departments and agencies, have formed the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) to develop national standards for educating professionals to protect the nation's critical infrastructure. University of Louisville successfully mapped our courses to the CNSS standards at the 4011 level in 2003 and 4012 level in 2004. We have now been recertified at the 4011 level in 2005.
