JOB TITLE: Director, Human Studies Program

CLASS CODE: 00001564   

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall administration of the University’s program for protecting human subjects/participants in research, including oversight and implementation of, and compliance with, university policies and procedures, federal and state statutes and regulations, and ethical, professional and other requirements or standards applicable to the conduct of human research.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, implement, and manage plans, policies and procedures to achieve the mission of the University’s Human Studies Program.

Develop, maintain and coordinate working relationships with diverse constituencies at the university.

Provide technical consultation to IRB’S. Supervise ethical and technical review of proposals meeting criteria for exempt and expedite review.

Monitor accreditation for the Human Studies Program and the university adherence to them.

Oversee financial management and allocation of resources. Develop, maintain and supervise staff support for HSP.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS

Knowledge of highly advanced professional discipline (e.g. M.D. Ph.D, JD or an equivalent doctoral degree required). Master’s degree with significant experience in directing a human studies program and research experience will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.

EXPERIENCE

Seven years of related experience with experience in a wide range of issues involved in protecting human subjects in research.
