JOB TITLE: Assistant Radiation Safety Officer

Oversee the daily operations and health physics functions for the Radiation Safety Office. Monitor compliance with University, State, and Federal regulations involving the use of radioactive material within the University. Assist manager in the implementation of the University’s Radiation Safety Program.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES
Assist the Radiation Safety Officer in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
Provide training to all users of radioactive material and to other employees who work in those areas or care for patients receiving radiation therapy.
Supervise Health Physicist and Hazardous Waster Technician with regard to their job duties and performance.
Manage radioactive material inventory program, upkeep, and reporting.
Perform quarterly audits of clinical areas using radioactive material to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.
Act as Radiation Safety Officer in the event of the RSO’s absence with respect to meeting attendance, office matters, or in the event of an emergency.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics or related field. Eligibility for certification in Health Physics by the American Board of Health Physics.
Six years of related experience.
