JOB TITLE: Asbestos Abatement Specialist
CLASS CODE: 001329
JOB SUMMARY
Provide field services for the University’s asbestos management program to include: asbestos abatement, asbestos surveys and assessments, contractor oversight, and emergency response.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES
Perform abatement services for small/medium asbestos projects.
Identify scope of required abatement, provide cost estimate, and coordinate scheduling with requesting department and Physical Plant.
Select containment strategy, perform abatement including cleanup and disposal, coordinate clearance inspection, and notify contacts when work is complete.
Respond to on-campus asbestos emergencies after hours and on weekends.
Identify and collect samples of suspect building materials.
Perform air monitoring for in-house projects.
Provide oversight of asbestos abatement contractors and provide training to Physical Plant employees.
Complete required paperwork and reports.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS
Specialized training beyond high school with a working knowledge of asbestos abatement. EPA approved AHERA courses and Commonwealth of Kentucky accreditation as an Asbestos Worker, Asbestos Inspector, and Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor. Employment physical and valid driver’s license required
EXPERIENCE
Four years of related experience.
