JOB TITLE: Library Specialist

JOB SUMMARY
This is the THIRD level in a series of four classification levels for library services. Incumbents in positions at this level work under limited supervision and perform more specialized activities. Work at this level requires strong technology skills and a thorough knowledge of library operations and resources.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES
Create, enter and update bibliographic records that require extensive validation in the integrated library system according to national standards and local practice.
Coordinate mechanisms for the assessment of library services and programs, including the evaluation of user satisfaction. Develop or adapt assessment instruments. Collect and analyze data. Compile statistical reports on a variety of software and platforms.
Communicate with vendors about orders and problem resolution. Select and evaluate vendors within established guidelines.
Create records to support the selection and acquisitions process. Create and maintain electronic fund records.
Compile bibliographies and other information resources on a range of subjects; review periodically to assure they are current.
Establish and maintain relationships with donors of library materials. Coordinate procedures for donations of library materials.
Analyze information needs to determine areas not being met by available resources. Recommend actions to address these needs.
Carry out and coordinate an established disaster plan for the handling of library materials.
Conduct extensive research to locate information, resources and other materials. Train users in research methodologies and strategies.
May hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate Library Technicians, Library Assistants, student assistants and temporary employees.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS
Associate's degree in liberal arts, business, computer/information science or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Three years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
