Perform general law enforcement duties and responsibilities. To preserve the peace, maintain order and prevent unlawful use of force or violence or other unlawful conduct.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Exercise general law enforcement authority to protect persons and property from injury, harm, or damage.
Identify, apprehend and assist in the prosecution of persons who commit crimes against the United States and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
When requested, assist federal, state, county, or municipal police officers, sheriff, or other peace officers in the performance of his/her lawful duties.
Enforce traffic regulations and state statutes including the issuing Uniform Traffic Citations, City of Louisville Parking Citations and University of Louisville Parking Citations.
Investigate traffic accidents and comply with state law regarding the reporting of same.
Administer emergency medical assistance when required or reasonable.
Maintain positive and effective public relations.
Adhere to departmental policies and procedures and be knowledgeable of university rules and regulations.
Participate in departmental training programs, including annual firearms training and qualification (qualification required).
Provide for physical security of university facilities and allow access to facilities when requested by authorized personnel.
Appear in various state and federal court systems.
Maintain positive public relations and image of department and university.
Insure proper care and maintenance of departmental equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING &SKILLS
Requires a high school or equivalent diploma and one year of experience. Minimum 21 years of age. Valid driver's license required and insurable through University's auto insurance policy. USA Citizenship at time of appointment. Certified or eligible for certification under the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training Police Officer's Professional Standard (P.O.P.S.) program and a police academy recognized and approved by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training. To be eligible for appointment candidates cannot have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C. & 992 (g) (8) and (9). The selection process includes successful completion of a written examination, oral interviews, drug screening test, physical examination and psychological evaluation and comprehensive background investigation.
