Perform general law enforcement duties and responsibilities. To preserve the peace, maintain order and prevent unlawful use of force or violence or other unlawful conduct.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
May serve as Acting Sergeant or Lieutenant in their absence.
Exercise general law enforcement authority to protect persons and property from injury, harm, or damage.
Identify, apprehend, and assist in the prosecution of persons who commit crimes against the United States and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
When requested, assist federal, state, county, or municipal police officers, sheriff, or other peace officer in the performance of his/her lawful duties.
Enforce traffic regulations and state statutes including issuing Uniform Traffic Citations, City of Louisville Parking Citations, and University of Louisville Parking Citations.
Investigate traffic accidents and comply with state law regarding the reporting of same.
Administer emergency medical assistance when required or reasonable.
Maintain positive and effective public relations.
Adhere to departmental policies and procedures and be knowledgeable of University rules and regulations.
Investigate and complete appropriate reports of criminal and non-criminal incidents reported to the officer.
Work special details, i.e., athletic events, bookstore, Red Barn, Derby weekend, etc.
Participate in departmental sponsored training programs, including annual firearms training and qualification (qualification required).
Insure proper care and maintenance of departmental equipment.
Act as Field Training Officer (FTO) for new officers.
Assigned to a division or section as a specialist (Investigation, Crime Prevention, etc.) for a temporary period of time.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS
Requires a minimum of 60 semester hours of college work, with three years public law enforcement experience (federal, state, or local agency) or equivalent combination of six years of education and public law enforcement experience. Minimum of 21 years of age. Valid driver's license required and insurable through University's auto insurance policy. USA citizenship at time of appointment. Certified or eligible for certification under the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training Police Officer's Professional Standard (P.O.P.S.) program and a police academy recognized and approved by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT). To be eligible for appointment candidates cannot have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C. & 992 (g) (8) and (9). The selection process includes successful completion of a drug screening test, verbal interview and certified or eligible for the DOCJT Advance Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Law Enforcement Officer Investigator Certification. Wage commensurate with experience. Grade NF.
