JOB TITLE: Roofer  

CLASS CODE: 001119  

JOB SUMMARY

Perform skilled maintenance repairs to roof of various types and construction. Will also perform general carpentry work in alteration and repair of buildings.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Repair a variety of roofs types – Shingles, slate, metal and built up to buildings. Install new roof materials. Repair gutters and downspouts. Make regular roof inspections. Use various types of waterproofing and caulking. Maintain records of supplies ordered, work completed and equipment.

Operate equipment; bucket truck, snorkel lift, bobcat, backhoe etc. Install new or repair existing ceilings, doors, windows, locks, hardware and furniture. Frame new or repair existing walls, hang and finish drywall and plaster.

Maintain and keep secure all tools and equipment.

Perform ongoing roof inspections and keep updated records on file.

Keep work area clean, safe and roped off.

Maintain and keep MSDS book updated.

Ensure ladders, scaffolds are stored according to code.

Receive training and follow all guidelines that pertain to snorkel lift and bucket truck.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS

High school diploma. Completion of formal trades or roofing apprenticeship program. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted. Valid driver’s license, be insurable by the university, police record check and employment physical examination.

 

EXPERIENCE

Three years of experience as a journeyman roofer.
