JOB TITLE: Plant Operator

JOB SUMMARY
Operate and maintain coal, oil, and gas fired boilers, centrifugal refrigeration equipment, and underground tunnel system for chilled water distribution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate chillers coal, gas, and oil fired boilers in accordance with specific guidelines for safe and efficient operation.
Make adjustments to plant equipment such as stokers, fans, conveyors, valves, pumps, and dampers as required to maintain efficient operation of the plant.
Operate coal handling system to keep boilers supplied at all time with coal.
Perform maintenance and repair work on all plant equipment and the chilled water distribution system.
Test boiler water samples and adjust chemical feed and boiler blow down as required.
Monitor water softening system and regenerate when necessary.
Periodically check ash as various locations in the boiler and remove ash as required, and operate shoot blowers on a regular basis.
Maintain a file of chemical tests, charts, logs in a neat and orderly fashion. Keep record of coal, gas, oil, and water consumed during his shift; maintain record of chemicals injected, ashes removed, and other pertinent data such as coal deliveries.
Keep equipment, supplies, and the plant in general in a neat and orderly fashion.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, AND SKILLS
High School Diploma. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
EXPERIENCE
Four years of related experience.
