JOB TITLE:  Dental Clinic Associate
CLASS CODE: 001049 

JOB SUMMARY

Serve as entry level Dental Clinic Associate. Examples of duties may include serving as chairside assistant, working in dental dispensary, working as patient services representative, or working in the records area.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

Serve as dental assistant: work chairside along student doctor, setting up/breaking down operatories in conjunction with infection control standards, escort patients to/from clinical areas. Ensure that encounter forms are completed by student doctor, ensure that patient record is retrieved and returned to records area.

Serve as dental dispensary clerk, including checking dental equipment in/out to students, maintaining accountability for all items given to students, picking up/returning clean/soiled instrument cassettes and handpieces from Central Sterilization, maintaining an inventory of supplies and instruments in the dispensary and ordering replacement items as needed. Insure that all infection control standards are followed.

Serve as patient services representative: greet and direct patients, interview patients and enter demographic data on the computerized patient information system, answer telephone calls and handle inquiries as able, compile patient charts, interview prospective patients on phone or in person and mail information to those interested in becoming new patients of School. May also include serving as cashier, accepting payments from patients, entering financial data into computer, issuing receipts, balancing cash drawer at end of day. May also include setting up payment contracts or making other financial arrangements with patients, third party agencies (e.g., Jeff. Co. Board of Health) and counseling patients who are in arrears on accounts. May also include making patient appointments by phone or in person.

Serve as sterilization assistant: receive soiled instrument cassettes and handpieces, process through entire sterilization process from the ultrasonic cleaner to packaging for sterilization to sending through the autoclave. Compile instrument packages to be picked up by clinical staff. Maintain handpieces through specialized oiling process.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS

High school diploma 

EXPERIENCE

Six months related experience or equivalent training in vocational/technical program. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
