JOB SUMMARY
Coordinate and direct the business and technical operations associated with the on-site Factory Automation Laboratory (FAL), the Machine Shop of the Center for Computer-Aided Engineering, and the Vogt Center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate on-site manufacturing in the Factory Automation Laboratory to include setting and maintain production quotas, enforcing safety rules and supervising student workers.
Operate computer numerical control, machine tools, hand and power tools, electronic devices; operate machines and welding equipment.
Troubleshoot, service, repair, and implement preventative maintenance on industrial-grade machines and mechanical equipment; maintain appropriate records.
Plan, design, fabricate and modify complex mechanical equipment for instruction and research.
Assist and advise faculty and students with planning construction of projects.
Set up and adjust machines, apparatus, instrumentation and help assist in instructing robotic courses.
Select materials and components for construction and maintenance of equipment.
Evaluate needs, recommend purchase of equipment and supplies, and confer with service engineers on problems encountered.
Assist in demonstrations of machines, robots, conveyors, etc. for visitors from industry and prospective students.
Develop and maintain safety, security rules and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, AND SKILLS
Associate degree or completion of related technical specialty program of over 18 months to 3 years. Machinist Apprenticeship Program, advanced welding courses, robotics, and numerical control programming.
EXPERIENCE
Six years of related experience.
