JOB TITLE: Nurse Anesthetist

JOB SUMMARY
Assist in the administration of anesthesia in an operating room under the direct supervision of an anesthesiologist and attend to the specific needs of patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer anesthesia as directed by the anesthesiologist.
Visit patients before and after surgery in order to inform and counsel patient regarding type of anesthesia used and the effects.
Assist the anesthesiologist in the administration of anesthesia in difficult cases.
Accompany patient to recovery room, when necessary, until effects of anesthesia disappear.
Start intravenous solutions as directed by physician.
Start and maintain monitoring lines, e.g., arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters.
Assist in maintenance of anesthesia equipment and drugs.
Participate in care of critically ill patients in the ICU under the direction of the anesthesiologist.
Assist anesthesiologist outside of the operating room as directed for cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Assist the anesthesiologist in directing work of department.
Responsible for clerical details regarding anesthesia records.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, AND SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Registered Nurse, ARNP registration, and CRNA registration.
EXPERIENCE
Two years of Nursing experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
