JOB TITLE: Laboratory Animal Technician

JOB SUMMARY
Care for research animals and maintain animal housing and facilities. Entry level position in career path for Animal Technician Certification Program.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES
Perform duties associated with facility sanitation, including the routine cleaning of items such as floors, cages, walls, animal feeders, sinks, implements and tables.
Provide food and water to laboratory animals. (Animals are handled during these procedures.) Use observational skills to identify problems such as animal dehydration, malfunctioning equipment, etc. Prepare reports regarding the status of animal health and equipment function.
Maintain hard copy and electronic animal and animal room records.
Assist senior laboratory animal technicians in special animal duties such as restraint, treatment and transport. Assist with the transport of cages and caging systems, and the receipt and storage of supplies.
Attend staff meetings, participate in training sessions and prepare for ALAT certification.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, AND SKILLS
High school diploma. Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
EXPERIENCE
One year of experience.
