JOB TITLE: Multimedia Technician II

Serve as computer hardware/software display devices operational contact for electronic media and multimedia devices utilized in classrooms, labs and other teaching and presentation environments. Assist and serve as backup for Communications Analyst II in his role as CODEC Lead Technician. Schedule, distribute, operate and consult with customers regarding usage of electronic instructional support media/multimedia technology and materials.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES
Serve as operational contact for multimedia software or hardware needs and other electronic media needs in classrooms and other teaching environments. Assist and serve as backup for Communication Analyst II in his role as CODEC Lead Technician and with teleconferencing and telecourses scheduled on all campuses.
Schedule and provide the operational support associated with the use of electronic media/multimedia technology by faculty and staff both inside and outside the University campuses including operation of University vehicle.
Provide operational support for IQE lab staff.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electronic media and multimedia computer hardware and software utilities. Consult with faculty and staff to make recommendations concerning appropriate instructional technology equipment for instructional and other usage. Improve professional competence and increase skills and training through self-education.
Assist and serve as backup for Communications Analyst II in his role as Assistant Technical Coordinator for the UofL Hub for the Kentucky Telelinking Network (KTLN) including scheduling of distance learning programs/classes for UofL using a variety of technologies including RF cable systems Lan/wan, Instructional Television Fixed Service (ITFS), microwave broadcast relays satellite broadcast reception, ISDN and compressed video network. Provide basic computer setup and repair for IT IS team.
Set up and operate computer-based multimedia and electronic media equipment. Provide basic computer setup and repair for IT IS team.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS
Associate's degree or completion of technical specialty programs of over 18 months and up to three year's duration. Instructional technology and computer theory and applications including basic computer troubleshooting and repair. Satellite telecommunications engineering study helpful. Successful completion of Computer Technology Industry Association, A+ Certification required after six months of employment, valid Kentucky driver's license and insurable by University insurance carrier. VTEL CODEC Operations Training. VTEL Multiway Control Unit (MCU) II Operations Training.
Three years of related training. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
