JOB TITLE:  Administrative Secretary
CLASS CODE:  000837 

JOB SUMMARY

Provide for and coordinate secretarial and informational services the performance of which may require discretion and independent judgment concerning the selection and evaluation of procedures employed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Initiate routine correspondence involving factual information of polices, procedure and/or departmental matters.

Type correspondence, reports manuscripts and other material from handwritten copy, primary or semi-finished source material, dictating machine recordings and/or shorthand notes.

May coordinate and oversee operations of office to include supervision of clerical support staff.

Maintain files and records of a confidential nature.

Schedule meetings and appointments.

Compile data and assist in preparation of various reports, budgets and analyses.

May advise faculty, staff and students on current University policy and procedure relative to a functional activity.

Prepare and route request for supplies, equipment and services.

Place telephone calls to obtain or provide information on behalf of supervisor or as it relates to departmental activities.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND SKILLS

High school diploma and one year of business school or secretarial training.

EXPERIENCE

Three years of experience. Typing - 50 wpm. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
