JOB TITLE: Nurse Specialist
CLASS CODE: 000430 

JOB SUMMARY

Provide nursing assistance to physicians in the treatment of patients in a specialized area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Obtain patient histories and develop appropriate treatment plans.

Schedule laboratory procedures and discuss any abnormalities with the physician(s).

Collect and maintain detailed patient records for treatment purposes and to provide data for research studies in the field.

Provide nursing support for physicians; including maintaining patient charts, performing pill counts, assisting in patient examinations, and reviewing patient maintained data sheets.

Instruct patients in specialized care and treatment procedures.

Assist in patient identification and recruitment by screening medical charts.

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND SKILLS

Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Certification and registration to practice nursing in Kentucky. Additional experience may be substituted for up to two years of related education.

EXPERIENCE

One year of Nursing experience in the area of specialization.
