Job Title: Assistant to the Dean
Class Code: 000310  

Job Summary

Direct and coordinate the planning and administration of operational and personnel activities, acting as the personal assistant to the Dean of the School.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist Dean with all external and University relations.

Coordinate and monitor faculty searches and affirmative action efforts.

Serve as college Liaison to the Public Information Office for publicity.

Interview, select, train and direct the work of professional administrative and classified staff.

Provide direct assistance to the Dean in planning unit events, composing memo and letters, advising of problem areas and actions needed related to administrative operations of the School.

Evaluate the Dean's incoming mail, assign follow-up action to appropriate Dean or other personnel; prioritize, and prepare responses as necessary.

Evaluate requests for appointments, facilitate access when appropriate and necessary and coordinate the Dean's calendar.

Assist the Dean in preparing agendas for the Administrative Plans and Policies Committee of the School, Department Chair, and Faculty meetings.

Responsible for the School's confidential personnel matters.

Maintain personnel files and appropriate Board actions.

Oversee operation of the Wang system; select and train a new System Administrator and a back-up Administrator for the School's word processing system and make decisions regarding upgrades and/or expansions.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Training and Skills

Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.

Experience


Four years of responsible Administrative Office Experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
