JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Student Life (ADSL) administers and evaluates the non-academic disciplinary process including all procedural aspects of due process. This position also directs, conducts and evaluates co-curricular and experiential programs for the Office of Student Life. Other responsibilities include the development and review of all Student Life publications and other promotional materials, as well as conducting research for the Office of Student Life. The ADSL serves as advisor to the SGA Elections Commission, coordinates staff development activities for the Student Life unit, and acts for the Assistant Vice President for Student Life (AVPSL) in her/his absence. The Associate Director of Student Life supervises staff, graduate student and professional staff interns in carrying out the above responsibilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

Administer and evaluate the non-academic student disciplinary process including all procedural aspects of due process (e.g. training judicial boards, notifying students of possible violations of the Code of Student Conduct, maintaining confidential student records, serving as hearing officer for informal meetings and hearings, notifying students regarding decisions, preparing summary reports, and serving as appeal officer for residence life discipline cases. Supervise clerical, and professional intern staff in carrying out the above responsibilities.

Direct, conduct, and evaluate co-curricular programs for the Office of Student Life including the National Student Exchange (NSE), the Alternative Spring Break (ASB), and the Saturday Night Alternative Program (SNAP). Oversee planning, marketing, selection and budget processes, and supervise clerical staff, undergraduate student staff and graduate interns in carrying out the above responsibilities.

Develop and review all Student Life publications including the Student Handbook, the Code of Student Conduct, the Student Life Brochure, and other promotional materials. Conduct research and prepare reports for the Office of Student Life. Supervise clerical staff, graduate student interns, and professional staff interns in carrying out the above responsibilities.

Coordinate staff development activities for professional and para professional staff. Develop discussion topics and coordinate interest sessions for staff meetings and other forums.

Serve as advisor to the SGA Elections Commission.

Act for the AVPSL in her/his absence.

Serve on University-wide and Divisional committees (e.g. Rape Prevention Committee, DSA Strategic Planning Committee).

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS

Master's degree in Student Personnel Services, Higher Education or Counseling, with some course work in higher education law.

EXPERIENCE


Six years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
