Job Summary

Develop and manage University's occupational safety and health program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, implement, evaluate and supervise occupational health control programs to assure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and University guidelines.

Review engineering and construction designs for new and renovation projects to assure maintenance of satisfactory occupational health conditions.

Develop, implement and oversee monitoring programs for employees exposed to contaminants and toxic agents and determine corrective procedures.

Develop, implement and oversee program to investigate and handle occupational safety and health complaints within the University.

Analyze various internal and external reports to evaluate the program effectiveness and budgetary needs.

Review of research grants that involve various biohazards for development of appropriate protocol.

Contract for evaluation and oversight of outside services to certify biological safety cabinets.

Maintain knowledge of laws, regulations and guidelines concerning all aspects of occupational safety and health (including: OSHA, NIOSH, CDC, Fire Marshall, ACGIH).

Represent the University at regulatory hearing, legal actions and legislative meetings that involve occupational safety and health concerns.

Knowledge, Training and Skills

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science or Occupational Safety.


Five years of related experience with working knowledge of industrial hygiene field equipment. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
