About

Brad Bowman received his PhD from the University of Chicago in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. He specializes in medieval Islamic history and is particularly interested in Christian communities of Syria-Palestine under Muslim rule in the early Islamic period. His monograph, Christian Monastic Life in Early Islam, was published by Edinburgh University Press in 2021 as part of their Studies in Classical Islamic History and Culture. His current research project will examine Christian monasteries through the lens of medieval Arabic poetry. He is also the director of the Middle East and Islamic Studies program at UofL.
