Forming Thesis or Dissertation Committee

n
Description

Creating a thesis or dissertation committee is one of the most important steps of your graduate degree. It is recommended that you first identify your chair and then work with that individual on the selection of your other members. It is imperative that you have the support of your chair on other committee members, and ideally, your committee members should have a prior, positive working relationship. Take time to learn the academic backgrounds and research interests of potential committee members before you ask them to serve on your committee to ensure they are a “good fit.” Remember that the chair of your committee guides your study and will therefore also advise you on how and when they wish for you to work with other committee members.
