Working with the Department and Career Center on the Job Search

If you wish to pursue an academic career, it is best to work with professors within your department for advice.  They are your best resources for post-docs and other positions within your academic field.  We suggest that you let your professors and mentors know early of your long-term professional plans so that they can be as equipped as possible to assist in your job search and eventual transition to the profession. However, if you do not wish to pursue a career in academe, we suggest that you take advantage of University resources, such as the Career Center.  There are career coaches assigned to each of our 11 colleges (Arts and Sciences, Education, Business, etc), including one designated to all graduate students (SIGS career coach).  Please contact the career center to schedule an appointment with an appropriate coach and also check the PLAN website for workshops on career-related services.
