Working on Transferable Skills

p
Description

In times of economic hardships and a competitve job market, it is essential to obtain a wide range of skills as a graduate student so that you are as marketable as possible upon completion of your graduate degree.  Take advantage of opportunities to expand your professional skills and stretch yourself in areas in which you are least familiar as a graduate student.  Planning early and taking the time to develop and translate your academic skills will increase the chances of getting a good job, as well help you be more successful when you get there. When developing your resume or CV, be sure to highlight areas or experiences that are broad in nature and can therefore be interpreted as transferable skills. Always remember to consult your department for its own support mechanism for students that are on the job search
