As GTAs, you often face the challenge of how to help students avoid plagiarism as well as what to do when a student has apparently plagiarized. And as graduate students, you may also want to learn about the more complex connections between blatant plagiarism and ethical use of other people's ideas. Instead of being a black and white issue, plagiarism has to do with cultural and disciplinary differences, in perception and practices, about the ownership and use of intellectual resources. This session will give you the opportunity to learn about a simple to complex range of issues about plagiarism as well as well as discuss how to deter and deal with plagiarism in your teaching. Graduate students, both international and mainstream, are highly encouraged to attend this event.
