ATC Report – June 2008

The Academic Technology Committee met on May 20.

Dr. Edna Ross presented a detailed report on the Tegrity lecture capture system pilot evaluation which was conducted during the spring 2008 semester. Good comments were received from both faculty and students who were involved in the evaluation. Students felt that the system added value to their courses and helped improve their performance. The ATC voted to recommend moving forward with this system.

Dr. Andrew Wright presented an update on the plagiarism prevention software. A pilot training session will be held this summer on the selected software. There are a few remaining technical issues, but it was felt that these would be resolved this summer.

Dr. Hancock presented an update on research computing. A variety of critical research computing needs, ranging from high performance computing to enhanced data storage and data management, have been identified by UofL researchers. Some benchmark studies have been performed on research applications, and vendors have made presentations to the Research Computing Infrastructure Committee. Mr. Mike Dyre is the IT contact for this activity.

This will be my last report to the Senate as ATC representative, as Dr. Rob Barker will become the Senate Representative to ATC effective July 1.

Respectfully submitted,

James H. Graham

Faculty Senate Representative to ATC
