Giving Societies
When you give $1,000 or more to UofL, you join the 1798 Society. Lifetime gifts of $50,000 or more qualify you for membership in the prestigious UofL Society.
You can designate your gift to a specific department, program or scholarship, or you can request your contribution be used where it is most needed.
1798 Society
The 1798 Society's name refers to the year the Kentucky state legislature passed an act establishing the Jefferson Seminary, the predecessor of the University of Louisville. Through annual gifts of $1,000 or more, 1798 Society members set an exemplary standard of giving and encourage the participation of others in advancing UofL's educational mission. Membership may include a spouse and is renewable annually.
The 1798 Society giving levels are:
- 1798 Level: $1,000-$2,499
- Tower Level: $2,500-$4,999
- Founder's Level: $5,000-$9,999
- Dean's Level: $10,000-$49,999
- President's Level: $50,000
UofL Society
The UofL Society was created in 1989 to formally recognize and honor the university's most generous benefactors: those with liftetime gifts of $50,000 and above. These members distinguish themselves as leaders in the community through their shared appreciation and genuine concern for higher education. UofL Society members provide the university with the opportunity to pursue excellence in its academic and athletic programs.
Membership in the UofL Society is available to individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations. The UofL Society recognizes distinguished donors at the following levels:
- Guthrie Circle: $50,000 or more
- Parrish Circle: $100,000 or more
- Wyatt Circle: $250,000 or more
- Brandeis Circle: $500,000 or more
- Hite Circle: $1 million or more
- Bringham Circle: $2.5 million or more
- Grawemeyer Circle: $5 million or more
- Speed Circle: $10 million or more
- Belknap Circle: $15 million or more
- Jefferson Circle: $20 million or more
- Minerva Circle: $25 million or more
Benefits of Joining
UofL Society and 1798 Society members receive many special benefits, including:

Your membership to the 1798 Society or UofL Society can include a joint gift with your spouse and is renewable annually (membership follows the fiscal year, July 1-June 30).
