Message from Dr. Postel - April wellness activities
Wonderful message from Interim President Postel! Get Healthy Now has created an April activity calendar combining campus and community opportunities for wellness engagement. We hope you will consider these in utilizing your daily 30 minute wellness break offered to all full time employees. GHN April Event Calendar or visit GHN website for more offerings.
Taking care of our health is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. Work, family and life in general can often keep us from making this a priority. Looking to World Health Day on April 7 and National Public Health Week April 2-8 as inspiration, we want to make finding extra time for your wellness easier in April. For the month of April 2018, we are asking supervisors to allow 30 minutes of leave (SLV) time in a workday (as much as 5 days per week this month, if possible) for all full time (0.8 FTE or greater) regular employees for wellness and preventative care related activities.
So go for a walk, take some time to relax and reduce your stress for 30 minutes. It is up to you to determine how you would like to spend your 30 minutes for wellness, but it is also up to you to work with your supervisor to arrange this time. You must have your supervisor’s approval before you take your wellness break to ensure it does not interfere or interrupt regular business functions. We ask supervisors to please make their best effort to accommodate these wellness breaks during the month of April 2018. We will provide more information to unit timekeepers next week.
Modifying lifestyle factors and preventative care can both have a huge impact on your overall health and wellness. Daily movement, proper nutrition and stress management are great ways to change your lifestyle factors. These factors can help with conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, obesity, diabetes, COPD and so on. Preventative care can be lifesaving with early detection and treatment of cancers and osteoporosis. Preventative screenings are 100% covered under all UofL health plans if done in network. You can confirm your doctor is in network with Anthem online or by calling 855-747-1137.
UofL offers great resources to help support your wellbeing: Get Healthy Now (employee wellness program), ULP – Health Management Services Team (diabetes, COPD, high blood pressure and cholesterol), ULP Diabetes and Obesity Center, and UofL HR Benefits.
So let’s get out there this April and take some time for your health and wellness. Thank you for all you do for UofL and for taking time to take care of YOU. For any questions, please contact Business Operations at firstname.lastname@example.org or 852-7549.
