Hart talks

Dr. David Mosley, a member of the Humanities faculty, is teaching a 300-level Humanities course that focuses on Hart, and has prepared a number of talks related to the Frederick Hart Exhibit. He invites faculty (and other interested teachers or community leaders) to schedule him to present one of the following talks to their classes:

  1. Making Space Sacred: Notre Dame of Chartes and the National Cathedral
  2. Public Art & The Public Good: Serrano, Maplethorpe, Hart and the NEA
  3. Commemorating the War in Vietnam: Lin's Abstract Wall and the Hart's Representational Sculpture
  4. Hart & the End of Art: Arthur Danto, Donald Kuspit, and Tom Wolfe
  5. The Theology & Aesthetics of Light: The Stained Glass Window & Hart's Acrylic Sculptures
  6. The Theology & Aesthetics of Stone: Michelangelo, Rodin & Hart
  7. Gargoyles in America: John Hall Carpenter & Frederick Hart
  8. Hart Goes to Court: Vietnam Veteran v. Frederick Hart & The National Cathedral v. Time/Warner
  9. The Return of Medieval in 20th Century Music: Pärt's "Miserere" and MacMillan's "The World's Ransoming"


Dr. Mosley is not available during the following times due to teaching:

  • Monday/Wednesday - between 4:00 and 6:45 p.m.
  • Tuesday/Thursday - between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. as well as 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Dr. Mosley is available to help instructors develop their own lectures, and will be glad to provide secondary materials.
