Frederick Hart: Giving Form to Spirit

“If art is to flourish in the twenty-first century, it must renew its moral authority by rededicating itself to life. It must be an enriching, ennobling and vital partner in the public pursuit of civilization. It should be a majestic presence in everyday life just as it was in the past.”

Frederick Hart

Louisville has the opportunity to seize that vision by hosting the largest retrospective ever held of Frederick Hart sculptures. More than 100 pieces will be on view on the University of Louisville’s Belknap Campus and select locations in downtown Louisville.

The University will turn Frederick Hart into the focus of its programming in music, humanities, history, fine arts, education, and athletics to bolster the exhibition. Nationally prominent speakers will be brought to Louisville to augment university offerings, turning fall 2007 into a celebration of America’s greatest sculptor. It is the university’s hope that this extraordinary exhibition will enhance Louisville’s arts community and its international renown.

"The University is excited to bring to Louisville the largest exhibition of works by this true American genius. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Louisville."

James Ramsey, UofL President
