LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The School of Music Opera Theatre at the University of Louisville will perform two one-act plays from Giacomo Puccini’s “Il Trittico (The Triptych)” 8 p.m., April 9 and 10, at the Brown Theatre, 315 West Broadway.

A cloistered Italian nun receives devastating news from her forbidding aunt in “Suor Angelica” and a family agrees to an outrageous scheme in order to get their hands on the inheritance of a deceased relative in “Gianni Schicchi.”

“‘Il Trittico’ had its world premiere as a single program of three operas in 1918 at New York’s Metropolitan Opera,” said Mike Ramach, co-director of the program. “However, they are not closely interrelated, and they are very often presented individually or paired.”

“Puccini is known for his great music,” Ramach said. “‘Suor Angelica’ has beautiful melodies and one of opera’s most popular arias, ‘O mio babbino caro,’ is in ‘Gianni Schicchi.’”

“Suor Angelica” and “Gianni Schicchi” will be performed by casts of 15 and 12, respectively, with two entirely different sets, costumes and lights for the productions.

Tickets are available through the Kentucky Center box office by calling 502-584-7777 and online at or at the door as available. Prices are $20 for general admission and $10 for UofL affiliates.

For additional details about the production, contact Mike Ramach at 502-852-0544 or
