About the First Year Initiatives Book-in-Common Program:
Book-in-Common supports new students in their transition and acculturation to UofL and engages the campus community through a series of curricular and co-curricular activities related to a common text. Through cross-campus collaborations, Book-in-Common supports the university mission of intellectual and cultural development, the President’s Vision for Diversity, and the university’s goals of developing students’ critical thinking skills (i2a) and community engagement.
Goals of the program:
Through Book-in-Common, students will:
a.) engage in discussion and analysis of the text and related themes both inside and outside the classroom.
b.) expand their knowledge base about topics related to the text.
c.) further develop their critical thinking skills.
d.) discover and demonstrate respect for diverse ways of thinking and being.
e.) make meaningful connections with faculty, staff, and other students as a result of program participation.
