Trustees and Porter - Requirements and Expectations
Being a scholarship student at the University of Louisville brings with it a number of responsibilities. The following is a list of expectations for you as a scholarship student.
As a scholarship student, it is your responsibility to maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, unless your Scholarship Terms of Agreement indicates otherwise.
Your cumulative GPA is reviewed once a year, at the end of the spring semester. If you do not meet the GPA requirements at the end of any spring semester, you will not receive your scholarship for the following academic year.
Scholarship eligibility is always based on your cumulative GPA at the end of the spring semester. Your cumulative GPA is not reviewed after the summer or fall terms, therefore, improving your GPA during the summer and/or fall terms will not result in immediate eligibility for the reinstatement of your scholarship.
All scholarship students are expected to enroll full-time each fall and spring semester. Currently, a full course load for an undergraduate student is considered to be 12 or more credit hours. A full course load for a graduate student is considered to be 9 or more credit hours.
Students who participate in cooperative programs (co-ops) during the fall and spring semesters may be eligible to receive scholarship funding at the full-time amount. All Speed School co-op students are considered to be full-time for financial aid purposes. Students enrolling in co-ops found in other academic units should contact that unit for guidance about full-time status.
If a student must leave the university due to special circumstances they may be eligible for a leave of absence from their scholarship. If there are unique circumstances that require students to take a break from attendance and they are receiving a Trustees or Porter award a leave of absence request must be submitted. These requests must be submitted to Lindsay Driskell in the Student Financial Aid Office.
Please be aware that the amount of your scholarship does not increase if you choose to enroll in Distance Education coursework at the University of Louisville. Be sure to review the charges related to Distance Education coursework and the amount of your scholarship carefully before making a decision to enroll in an online course.
Attending Summer School
Scholarship funds are not available during summer semesters, with the exception of first-year Speed School students. Speed School students are required to be enrolled full-time in the summer following their first year of enrollment. First-year Speed School students will automatically be awarded their scholarships for the summer semester regardless of cumulative GPA. Speed School students are not eligible for funding during subsequent summer semesters of their academic programs. Scholarship funding received during fall and spring co-op semesters should be saved and used for expenses during the summer semesters.
Scholarships are given to students for eight semesters, or eleven semesters for those seeking a degree in engineering, with the expectation that the student will graduate during that time. You should schedule your classes appropriately. After you have used your semesters of eligibility, your scholarship will end and you will be billed accordingly.
Students who do not meet the GPA requirements or need additional semesters of eligibility can file an appeal. The Student Financial Aid Office will communicate with you via e-mail regarding your status at the conclusion of the spring semester. Be sure to check your university e-mail account frequently. Do not, however, rely solely on our e-mail notification. You are ultimately responsible for checking to determine whether or not you meet the conditions for the renewal of your scholarship.
The appeal deadline is June 1st each year. Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is also required. FAFSA data must be on file in the Student Financial Aid Office by the appeal deadline. Appeals require extensive documentation of your unusual circumstances, and should be completed with as much detail as possible. All appeals should be addressed to the Scholarship Appeals Committee and submitted directly to the Student Financial Aid Office.
